Backhand - Slow Motion

You might want to practice while watching these clips in slow motion. They are the same clips that you see in real time for the one handed backhand. Slow down and get the feel of the correct stroke. Then move to the real time clips to perfect the feel and the form.

Backhand and Forehand Volley

As Alex hits against the ball machine watch his split step between shots to be prepared for either a forehand or backhand return. Notice the short draw back to the racket and the stepping forward to add weight to the volley. When you play the left view clip notice how Alex strikes the ball with a sharp angle to absorb pace, a useful drop volley strategy to more accurately place your shot.

Slice - Backhand

Note these anchor points as you watch yourself swing in front of The Coach in the Mirror: 1. Using a continental grip, bring the racket back immediately, but do not rush. 2. Bring racket high into non-dominant hand. 3. Swing is down and through, not just down. 4. The continental grip hitting down and through will cause the slice. Don't try to a slice motion of racket. 5. The non-racket hand stays back. 6. Remember to step forward with the racket.
