Backhand - One Handed

Watch these anchor points as you swing in front of Coach in the Mirror 1. Take racket back with your non-dominant hand on the racket. 2. Make a pronounced shoulder turn with shoulders parallel to the sideline. 3. Drive toward the net; do not block your hips. 4. Draw racket from your non-dominant hand. 5. Move racket forward and up (like dropping a ball that was trapped under your upper arm). 6. Racket head finishes up with arm extended.

Backhand - Slow Motion

You might want to practice while watching these clips in slow motion. They are the same clips that you see in real time for the one handed backhand. Slow down and get the feel of the correct stroke. Then move to the real time clips to perfect the feel and the form.

Backhand - Two Handed

Watch these anchor points as you swing in front of Coach in the MIrror: 1. Make a big shoulder turn. 2. Racket drop below the ball just before contact. 3a. For left handed hitters.... right arm bent, left arm straightens 3b. For right handed hitters... left arm bent, right arm straightens 4. Finish high; kiss your back shoulder weight on front foot.

Forehand - Components with pauses and slow motion

Use this video to hit anchor points in Celeste's forehand. The captions announce how each segment will play. Some segments will pause, some play in slow motion, others play without pauses. This variety is meant to let you get you mind around both the component structure of the forehand and the flow from one component to the next as you shadow swing while watching Celeste.

Forehand - Open Stance

Watch these anchor points as you swing in front of Coach in the Mirror. Right hand hitters: 1. Move toward the ball but load your weight on the outside foot. Load down in your legs. 2. Push off of the outside leg and transfer onto left leg as you strike the ball. The feet become parallel to the net. 3. Keep belly button and shoulders parallel to and facing the net on contact with the ball.

Forehand - Regular Stance

Watch these anchor points as you swing in front of Coach in the Mirror: 1. Step into the ball toward the net with front foot. 2. Spot the incoming ball with extended non-racket hand. 3. Weight comes off your back foot as you follow through on the swing. 3. Shoulders and feet are perpendicular to the net.

Serve - Freeze Frames

Note these anchor points as you watch yourself in front of The Coach in the Mirror: 1. Start with weight on either the forward foot (like Andy Murray) or on the back foot. 2. Extend your tossing arm fully and hold as ball travels upward. 3. Weight held neutral on both legs, like a Jack in the Box. 4. Racket begins it's complete full circle 5. Snap your wrist and follow through with racket on opposite side of your body. 6. Transfer your weight into the court.

Slice - Backhand

Note these anchor points as you watch yourself swing in front of The Coach in the Mirror: 1. Using a continental grip, bring the racket back immediately, but do not rush. 2. Bring racket high into non-dominant hand. 3. Swing is down and through, not just down. 4. The continental grip hitting down and through will cause the slice. Don't try to a slice motion of racket. 5. The non-racket hand stays back. 6. Remember to step forward with the racket.

Slice - Forehand

Note these anchor points as you watch yourself swing in front of The Coach in the Mirror: 1. Shift to a continental grip. 2. Tilt racket head slightly open on contact. 3. Swing through the ball taking off the bottom half of the ball.

Volley - Backhand

Note these anchor points as you watch yourself swing in front of The Coach in the Mirror: 1. Maintain the head and shoulders in a triangular plane parallel to the net. 2. Prepare the racket early with racket head up and elbows in to the body. 3. Step forward on outside foot to load as you are on your way to hit the ball. 4. Keep the hands close together with the left hand behind the racket. 5. Release racket from left hand and swing down and through the ball, left hand remains back.
